the TrafoLab
LightArtLaboratory | Transformation Future

trafolab, a former transformer station in hanover-kleefeld, sees itself as a place that brings people together around the subject of light and art. its focus is on experimenting together in the space and working on the object. various industry-professionals meet in the electric café monthly to exchange ideas or initiate light art projects.

just like that, the place where electricity was created and distributed in the past became a meeting space where the future is being transformed every day. in workshops, new ideas are developed and discussed – captivating those who seek exchange to solve problems transdisciplinary.

the founder of trafolab is the well-known sculptor franz betz (franzbetz vision) from hanover. besides the project “TrafoLab” he is co-organizer of the open-light-festival Ihme-Vision and the chairman of the Werkbund Nord e.V..

since its opening in june 2015, trafolabs first few successful projects have already been launched already. in cooperation with Keimfarben GmbH, the pilot project Lichtkunst Farbraum (light art color space) took place. visitors were able to discover new light and colour spaces through mobile walls and light sculptures. a continuation of the project was planned for 2016. in a weekly light art workshop, pupils from Maximilian Kolbe School and Workshop South were able to build their own works of light art. finally, the young people exhibited their works to the public at a summer festival.

the trafolab was awarded the innovation fund 2015 of the city of hanover.
